This past weekend, four girls from the Clear Falls High School sailing team traveled to sunny California to compete against twenty-one other girl’s teams from across the US. The sailing conditions were very challenging with strong current, significant wind shifts, and strong puffs that intensified in early afternoon each day. In the A Division, skipper Julia Sheaffer and crew Katie McGagh ended the two day event with a strong third place finish. Sailors Grace Bates and Jessica Willits finished ninth place. Their combined team scores resulted in an overall eighth place finish in the competition. This is Julia’s final season as a senior at CFHS. “It was really cool to go back to the PCISA Women’s Invitational as a senior, especially because I did it my freshman year and it was the first high school sailing regatta I had ever competed in. I had a lot of fun, and I hope the girls on the CFHS sailing team continue to do the regatta.”
Congratulations to the KNIGHTS Girls for placing 8th overall at the PCISA Girls Invitational this past weekend in San Diego, CA. There were 20 teams from across the US that competed in this event. Skipper Julia Sheaffer and crew Katie McGagh finished 3rd in the A Division and in the B Division, skipper Grace Bates and crew Jessica Willits finished 9th. Way to go Knights!
Thank you to Mrs. Joann Willits for volunteering to chaperone the team and to provide coaching during the regatta. Mrs. Willits sailed collegiately and was a women’s national championship team member. Thank you Mrs. Willits!
The regatta in Austin last weekend was a bunch of fun! The winds were shifty and the conditions were difficult. Our sailors did a great job of concentrating on their speed while creating productive strategies. Tactics were not as sharp as I would like so we will continue to work on that. Mark-roundings and starts seem to be very solid.
